Overview

SRC staff and interns work closely with local teachers to give students a chance to experience scientific research in a non-evaluative atmosphere. This face-to-face teaching builds relationships between high school and college or graduate students in marine science, and fosters positive attitudes towards scientific career pathways and scientific research. SRC experts are available year-round for presentations, and will be happy to visit schools, community centers, businesses, and more. Our outreach programs allow us to deliver up-to-date scientific information to hundreds of local students each year.

With the numerous threats facing sharks today, it is imperative that we educate future generations about their ecological importance and extinction risk. Our outreach programs allow us to deliver up-to-date scientific information to hundreds of local students each year. Students are encouraged to act as ambassadors for the ocean, sharing this knowledge with their friends and family. By ensuring that our local communities are aware of scientific research about marine issues, particularly those affecting shark populations, the Shark Research & Conservation Program works to ensure the health and future of South Florida’s marine resources and to foster community involvement in achieving those goals.
